Devlog #01 How did it all start...
Hi. I'm Meremi and this is my little project. The first idea was that I only had a week to create a game using ready-made assets. It was supposed to be a simple game in which the player's goal was to survive as long as possible in the arena and collect as many points as possible. However, over time the concept has changed and the weekly limit has passed. So I decided to share with you my progress, plans for the future and what it was like in the beginning.
So let's start from the beginning. Last week, on Monday, I returned to programming and game development after a long break. Exactly one week ago on Friday I set myself the task of creating a simple complete game with my limited knowledge. However, this task did not complete successfully. Still, I'm proud of the progress I've made. As I said, the first concept assumed that the player had to survive as long as possible in the arena to collect as many points as possible. Simple, right? However, over time, the concept has grown a bit. The current assumptions are as follows:
- The player faces waves of enemies and after the last wave, he fights the boss of the level
- The player in the hub will be able to spend the earned points/money to permanently upgrade his hero/knight
- During combat, the player will also be able to spend points to unlock temporary upgrades
When it comes to progress, I still say that I am at a very early stage of development of the game. I have added 4/5 enemies depending on how you count because the first 'zombie' opponent got two different versions while testing the mechanics. I've also done a very basic UI that will definitely change. The main protagonist, the knight, is rather finished. It lacks a few sounds and a few fixes in animations, but mechanically I will rather not change anything. There is also a whole system of spawning enemies, which is being developed along with the new enemies.
The plans for the near future are to bring the game to a demo-ready state, and there is still quite a bit of work to be done:
- Menu
- Death screen
- Main Hub / Arena Hub
- Power-ups
- Game save and load system
- First boss
- 2-3 additional enemies
